Spring Cleaning my Soul

christinepoper

The past couple of weeks have been filled with organizing and cleaning as we get ready to sell our house. The day before the photos were to be taken, I stuffed items in drawers and cabinets in order to create a staged look: no mess, no clutter and move in ready!

As I hid my belongings behind closed doors I had the underlying reminder that each of these things would need to be pulled out again and organized; each one examined to see if it was something worthy of taking with me into my future or something I needed to let go of.

When I sit before the Lord each day, the same opportunity lies before me. Throughout my life I have deposited many things within my heart, soul and mind. Which do I want to keep? Which do I need to release?

Motivation to 'spring clean' comes easy when comes to the characteristics and behaviors that everyone around us can see. However there some things that we shove into the cabinets and crevices within us that others will rarely get true insight into. They often lie there, untouched, multiplying as we continue to shove more of the same into that hidden place.

Friends, choose to prioritize a time to sit quietly and open up those spaces.

Allow yourself to take a look or feel what lies within you.

Allow the Lover of your soul to reveal everything that inhabits you.

Value the parts of you that others cannot see, because they are the seeds of the fruit that will show up in your life.

Everything within you is precious to the Lord and He cares that they are rooted and grounded in His Spirit, because abundant life comes from Him alone.

If you feel hesitant, ask yourself what is stopping you and listen for God's truth.

- Taking a look at what has been gathered within us can be painful.

- It can leave us wrestling shame and condemnation.

- It can feel like if we open the door, everything will fall out and it'll be too much.

The truth is:

...in the pain, God will be with you. 1 Chronicles 28:20

...when we face shame, there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

...if it feels like too much and too late, "Surely, the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear." Isaiah 59:1

...if you've been telling yourself that you will always be 'this' way, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17

Christ's abundant life reaches right into the darkest corners of our hearts and minds.

Taking that honest, first look into those places may be your first step into the freedom that He has for you.

It's time to Spring Clean.

Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Psalm 51:6
